Billboard.com: It’s been 20 years -- yes, 20 -- since Carlos Vives released his hauntingly beautiful and hugely successful single “La Tierra del Olvido” (The Land of Oblivion).
The original video to the song was a love letter to Vives’ Colombia, beautifully depicted via a love story set in some of the country’s most gorgeous vistas.
Now, Vives has recorded a new version of “Tierra del Olvido,” and has come up with an even more beautiful visual re-imagination featuring eight Colombian artists: Maluma, Fanny Lu, Fonseca, el Cholo Valderrama, Herencia de Timbiqui, Andrea Echeverry and Coral Group.
The video was produced by ProColombia (the Colombian organization in charge of fostering tourism and foreign investment) to be shown in Expo Milan 2015. In it, Vives and his guests are shown in different parts of Colombia, from the rooftops of Bogota (Echeverry) to the Amazon River (Fonseca) to Cali’s Valle del Cauca (Herencia de Timbiquí) to San Andres (Coral Group). In the two days since it’s been up, it has garnered over 2 million views. And no wonder -- this new love letter to Colombia makes us yearn to go home.
The new “Tierra del Olvido” will be featured as bonus content on the CD/DVD Vives’ Mas + Corazon Profundo: En Vivo Desde Santa Marta, out Aug. 7 on Sony.
